Mounted shell, Helmet shell, Cassis cornuta
A classic shell from the Indo-Pacific, the spider like appearance seems strange for a shell to develop. It has a function believed in the shell’s protection from predation, and the shape is much loved by interior designers and people who love products from the ocean.
This shell was collected long time ago, possibly during the time of the boom in curio cabinets that started in the Rennaissance during the 17th century. They are classic items in the curio-cabinet.
