Gemsbok trophy skull Oryx gazella Linnaeus, 1758
The gemsbok is a large antilope which is native to the arid regions of Southern Africa. As it is the species with healthy populations, its decorative and spectacular horns make it a famous game species.
The horns can measure up to 85 cm in lenght, and can help to destinguish the males from the females easily, as the latter have longer and thinner horns. These horns can be fashioned into natural trumpets and even shofars, which is a jewish natural trumpet/music instrument.
