DESCRIPTION/EXPERTISE
This is a large and impressive mask carved by the Kwoma, a remote people living along the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea.
The mask has been created of dense hardwood with a relief crocodile upon the forehead. Iconic Kwoma facial features and nose, this mask is indicative to the people of this region. Encrusted patina and traces of red, yellow and white pigment appears throughout from ongoing handling and ceremonial use.
