IFUGAO RITUAL SWINE SKULL – Early 20th Century

DESCRIPTION/EXPERTISE
Swine are important animals in the tribal Ifugao Society of the Northern Philippines. As these animals are used for feasts during important events within the society, their skulls are used as a reminder of the event and the respect for the animal. The smoke of the houses has put a tarry black patina on these objects, making them alien and somehow morbid. Excellent item to put in a Wunderkammer collection.
